Prison guards "meddled" in 8 years, and the children of 353 prisoners realized their dream of going to school.

A request
A child can’t drop out of school when he is admitted to college.

Xiaoyu’s father is a prisoner in Panxi Prison. A year ago, he received the news that his son was admitted to the university. He was excited and somewhat depressed: What about the children’s tuition and living expenses?
"Liu Kechang, can you help my son? He has good grades. Please make sure he keeps studying, not like me." Although he has not lived with his son for many years, Xiaoyu’s father knows that his son must be worried about it. In a thorough investigation of prisoners’ family situation in prison, he told Liu Qingsong, deputy section chief of the Department of Education and Reform, what he wanted.
Later, Liu Qingsong and the police went to Xiaoyu’s home to check the situation, and found that in addition to Xiaoyu’s study problem, there was a younger sister at home who was about to enter high school, and Xiaoyu’s mother was the only one in the family who worked outside to support her. "Never let Xiaoyu give up his studies and go to work! Considering that there are indeed difficulties in the prisoner’s family, we helped him contact the relevant non-profit organizations. " Liu Qingsong said.
In the end, the two non-profit organizations lend a helping hand to Xiaoyu’s brothers and sisters, providing them with annual scholarships of 1,200 yuan and 2,400 Hong Kong dollars respectively. And this is just a microcosm of the help that Liu Qingsong and the prison have given to the families of prisoners in need in the past eight years.

A home visit
Children of poor prisoners are innocent.

Before each assistance, Liu Qingsong has to visit the prisoners’ homes to find out the verification situation. His footprints have traveled all over Liangshan and Panzhihua.
"We have no hope in this life, can you help the doll!" In 2015, Liu Qingsong visited a village in Yunnan, and the scene in front of him shocked him: "It is a home supported by pillars." Three children live with their grandparents at their aunt’s house. Not only that, grandpa has suffered from gastrointestinal diseases for many years and has no money to treat the wound.
The parents and uncle of the child were punished by law for committing intentional homicide, and a big family was completely destroyed.
"Adults are guilty and have to pay the price, but children are innocent." This is also the answer that Liu Qingsong gave most often when someone questioned him later.
Liu Qingsong helped the three siblings to apply for grants, and through the school teacher, he has been paying attention to the growth of the three siblings. "Look, this is a photo sent to me by their teacher. My sister has been in Grade One this year, and her grades are very good."

A salary card
Witness the change of his wife’s attitude towards helping him.

"Matchmaking" is just a form of Liu Qingsong’s help. Sometimes when he sees relatives of prisoners who are in urgent need of help, he can’t help but pay for it himself, which has also triggered conflicts in his own family.
In 2015, Liu Qingsong contacted a non-profit organization to win the opportunity to go to school in other places for the children of three prisoners from poor families. Before the three children set off, he organized the prison police to donate money and donated 1000 yuan himself. When he went to the railway station to see the children off, he couldn’t help but put 3000 yuan into the hands of the school teacher as the living expenses of three children.
But this "impulsive" donation was known by Liu Qingsong’s wife Chen Xiaomei. In a rage, she confiscated her husband’s salary card. "At that time, his monthly salary was only 3,000 yuan, and he donated 4,000 yuan at a time. He must do what he can to do good deeds." But later, Chen Xiaomei saw Liu Qingsong’s persistence in helping, and her heartfelt joy after each help. She gradually changed her attitude. Besides returning her salary card to Liu Qingsong, she also offered her own salary card to him. "We also have children. For us, it may be thousands of dollars, but for the children of some families with difficult prisoners, it may be an opportunity to change their destiny." Chen Xiaomei said.

A kind of persistence
A total of 353 children of prisoners were assisted in 8 years.

After graduating from Southern Metallurgy College in 1997, Liu Qingsong entered Panxi Prison, and in 2011, he began to take charge of education and reform.
For eight years, getting a marriage certificate for prisoners, changing temporary driver’s license, getting an account for prisoners’ children, getting a minimum living allowance, and getting into school have become the daily work of Liu Qingsong.
"Family ties are an important force to help prisoners reform and return to society." With this in mind, he helped 517 prisoners to solve practical difficulties and 442 children of prisoners, among whom 353 minor children of 249 prisoners received various grants totaling 769,300 yuan.
And his persistence also infected colleagues around him. On May 7th this year, Panxi Prison set up the "Liu Qingsong Help and Education Studio", and more and more policemen joined it. Some of the children he helped have graduated and taken up jobs. Xiao Li, who works in Hubei, also supports a prisoner’s child and an orphan with a monthly salary of more than 5,000 yuan. "It is right to come out from a difficult place and help children in difficulty!" The father who is still serving his sentence is very pleased to learn about his son’s move. He said, "I will be sentenced in 10 months, so I must live a good life when I go out."
