Towards the Spring of Hope ―― A Report from the Earthquake-stricken Area

Xinhuanet Chengdu, February 24th (Xinhua News Agency reporters Zhang Yanping, Li Yajie, Jin Xiaoming, Cong Feng, Liu Dajiang, Feng Changyong, Zhou Yingfeng) Rape blossoms, pear blossoms, grass all over the mountain and wild flowers all over the slope. A peach tree bent over by a boulder, even if it is prostrate on the ground, still blooms a purplish red.

In early spring and February, when we once again set foot on Beichuan, Wenchuan and Qingchuan ….. the unforgettable memories of pain turned into permanent treasures in the dazzling spring. Spring, this spring on this land, finally came out under the collapsed houses and in the cracks of the cracked stones! It is difficult, but it is unstoppable.

It is necessary to ensure that winter housing is thickened and reinforced so that everyone in the disaster area will not be frozen.

It is necessary to ensure that warm clothes are distributed to everyone, so that everyone in the disaster area can wear warm clothes.

It is necessary to ensure that winter and spring rations meet the demand and let everyone in the disaster area eat enough.

It is necessary to ensure that health and epidemic prevention are put in place so that everyone in the disaster area can keep healthy.

It is necessary to ensure sufficient reserves of necessary materials, so that everyone in the disaster area has no worries.

Radish Village in Yanmen Township, Wenchuan County is located in the alpine mountain area with an altitude of more than 2,000 meters, and is called "Qiang Village in the Clouds".

In the deep winter, the reporter set off for Wenchuan, climbed over the high mountain ridge and circled along the winding mountain road. As we can see, the ancient Qiang village has been turned into ruins, and nearly a thousand villagers have lived in the temporary transitional "fork house". This is a simple house called by the local people. It is framed by wood and surrounded by mats on the roof.

The reporter saw that all the "fork rooms" in Radish Village were wrapped in colorful strips of cloth, and colorful strips of cloth were particularly bright in the monotonous mountains in winter.

Walking into the home of Wang Jincheng, an 86-year-old Qiang man, I learned from the mouth of the old man that the "fork room" they lived in was carefully wrapped and had four floors. The innermost layer is a wooden board with linoleum in the middle, another layer is a brown pad, and the outermost layer is a striped cloth.

The old man said, "The fork house has a low roof and can’t make a fire to keep warm. A few days ago, I was worried about what to do in winter. Now, the government has surrounded our house so thick that I am not afraid of cold air coming in when I sleep at night." He pointed to the three quilts on the bed and said, "This is also issued by the government. It won’t freeze this winter."

It is still the day of deep winter. At Li Peigen’s home in Yangshan Village, Yaodu Town, Qingchuan County, the reporter met a family of three who were sitting around with two neighbors for dinner.

The dining table is steaming, the food is three meats and two vegetables, the staple food is rice, and there is a bottle of local grain wine. There is a row of bacon hanging on the beams, two bags of "disaster relief rice" standing in the corner, thick quilts on the bed, and golden corn cobs hanging on the wooden frame outside the house …

"I just killed Nian pig this morning. Please help my neighbors to have dinner together." Li Peigen said with a smile, "It’s no problem to spend the winter this year. We have food, clothing and a roof, and we don’t lack anything for the New Year."

What brings warmth to this cold winter is the care and care of the people in the disaster area by the party, the government and the people of the whole country.

By the end of 2008, the central government had allocated a total of 41.794 billion yuan of living assistance funds for natural disasters in Wenchuan earthquake-stricken areas, helping 9,224,400 people suffering from disasters.

  -8.274 billion yuan of temporary living assistance funds were allocated to help 9.2244 million people with "three noes" and "three orphans";

  -2.5 billion yuan of follow-up living assistance subsidy funds were allocated, and 3,492,500 people were assisted;

  -Allocate 30 billion yuan of subsidies for housing reconstruction of farmers whose houses have been damaged to support housing reconstruction of farmers in disaster areas;

-Allocate 625 million yuan of temporary living assistance funds for earthquake-stricken areas in winter and spring to ensure the basic livelihood of people in need.

Read this set of data in Sichuan Province.

More than 560,000 permanent farmhouses were completed before the Spring Festival in Sichuan Province, and all the 2.21 million generally damaged farmhouses were repaired and reinforced. At the same time, the reconstruction, maintenance and reinforcement of 12,000 and 263,700 towns were completed respectively. Before the end of November last year, the task of keeping warm for 530,200 rural self-built transitional resettlement houses was completed.

The Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government used financial input, social donations and other channels to raise and distribute 3.991 million beds of quilts, 4.902 million pieces of cotton-padded clothes, and 477,000 heating supplies such as baking stoves, so as to ensure that each affected person has at least one quilt and one set of cotton-padded clothes to keep warm for the winter. In addition, while reserving more than 100,000 beds of quilts, Sichuan also arranged more than 200 million yuan to purchase cold-proof materials.

The shots from all directions in the disaster area witnessed the dribs and drabs of people welcoming the spring-

In Wenchuan, Ming Mao, a 22-year-old Tibetan boy from Wolong Town, got married in a board house during the Spring Festival, and a happy couple started a new life as they wished.

In shangping village, Xujiaping Town, Lueyang County, after the reconstruction of Shaanxi Province, the most joyful folk song sung by the villagers in northern Shaanxi is "Three big tile houses with white walls painted with lime, sleeping in curtains and bacon hanging all over the walls".

In Hejiaping Village, Orange Orange Township, Wudu District, Longnan City, Gansu Province, the most frequently recited sentence by the villager Pan Gui during the Spring Festival is "If we had encountered such a big disaster in the past, we would have become refugees fleeing from the desert, how could we be so prosperous for the New Year?"

Spring is bred in the coldest days.

February 4th is the "beginning of spring" in the 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar. From this day, the cold winter is far away from people, and the hopeful spring comes quietly …

In the most painful heart, there is always the strongest strength.

On August 16th, 2008, it rained heavily in Beichuan.

This day is the centenary of the Wenchuan Earthquake, and tens of thousands of sad people gathered at the site of Beichuan County to pay homage to their loved ones.

A Qiang woman named Wu Hong came to Dashui Village in Tangjiashan. She lost her husband and son in the earthquake. She propped up her umbrella on a stone, knelt in the rain, lighted matches with trembling hands, and mourned the loss of two beloved relatives by burning paper. While burning paper, she cried and cried loudly to her relatives: "I can’t fail you, I will fulfill your last wish, and I will let you die in peace …"

Around her, cigarettes filled the air, and thousands of people cried and tears flew like rain …

Talking is a new kind of savings, and there is the heaviest power in pain.

This spring, we met Wu Hong again in Renjiaping Banfang District, Beichuan. He is still a small man, with a backpack slung over his shoulder and striding. He has not seen each other for several months, and he has become handsome and tough. Wu Hong, who is the director of the village committee and director of women, excitedly pulled us into her home. She and the villagers in Dashui Village have moved here for more than five months.

The room is very simple, but very warm. Qiang embroidery is hung on the wall, bacon is hung along the window, a large cloth separates the living and rest spaces, and cooking gas stoves, pots and pans are all available.

She said that last year, the first day of the tenth lunar month passed the Qiang calendar year. Under her initiative and leadership, more than 6,000 people in the whole board house area danced together and sang folk songs. She said that after the Spring Festival, she would start organizing women here to learn Qiang embroidery. The next morning, she would take the first batch of more than 20 women to Dujiangyan for a half-month training. She also said that she is preparing to build a harmonious tourism development company in Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, and the county has decided to give a loan. Her biggest dream is to let the Qiang culture go out of the mountains.

At the age of 37, she had only a primary school education, and began to learn computers from others. Now she can look up information and chat online, but her typing is slower. Speaking of this, she smiled shyly.

"Life must go on, the more difficult I am, the less afraid I am. But sometimes I am so annoyed that I can’t sleep at night, so I write in my notebook alone and encourage myself. I want to let the dead relatives rest assured in the grave … "

The deceased, this is the pain that can never be touched. Suddenly, she cried. Only after crying, her eyes shone again.

When we say goodbye, Wu Hong must give us a pair of Qiang embroidered cloth shoes that she sewed by herself, which she designed for the tourism company to be established. On the bright Qiang red bottom, the golden and green hues hand over dazzling flowers and grass.

This is the flowers and grass that have experienced disaster!

Unforgettable in Mianyang’s largest Yongxing Banfang District, more than 10,000 people live here from Beichuan County, and almost every family has lost their loved ones.

The 40-year-old Wen Rong lost her 16-year-old son and 68-year-old mother. She once wanted to die and stayed in bed for more than ten days without eating or drinking. It was the volunteers who saved her, and let her, a human body with no age in the world, know another kind of affection in the world.

Now, she has also joined the team of volunteers, taking care of the children who are reading games here at the volunteer service station in Banfang District. She said to us, "People who are alive have to go on for a long time and have something to do before they feel they have the courage to live."

On the day of the centenary memorial, she and her husband braved the heavy rain to burn paper for their son in Beichuan. That night, she saw her son in her dream, still wearing the white pants she bought for him. She said to her son, "Baby, go all the way forward, and mom and dad will always look at you with a smile …"

I also saw Liu Renqin, an old man who had opened Liu’s fresh brine shop in Beichuan for more than ten years. He lost his second son, granddaughter and eldest daughter-in-law in the earthquake, and his family left halfway. He became silent and seldom spoke to people. When he entered the board room area, his heart gradually warmed up. The "Liu’s Fresh Brine Shop" reopened at the door of the board room area, and there were an endless stream of guests visiting every day. He said, "People still have to live!" He plans to visit Beijing in a few years, which is the place he wants to play most in his life.

Walking in this board house area, behind the roadside houses, all the open spaces with soil are green, with everything from rape, green onions, Chinese cabbage and green beans. Even the large mounds dug up when building houses are covered with all kinds of fresh and watery vegetables.

What kind of painful struggles have people who have created this green life experienced? In the warm embrace of the motherland, they held on!

Jiang Min, known as "the strongest policewoman", held on. She turned the grief of losing her loved ones into the strength of fighting in the workplace so far.

The children who survived Beichuan Middle School held on. On the broken wall of the school covered with thousands of heart cards, one child wrote: "We will continue to work hard and take you and our future with us! Students, rest in peace! "

The people of the whole country held on. When Premier Wen Jiabao wrote four characters in a classroom in Beichuan, the hearts of every Chinese son and daughter felt a call-hold their stubborn heads high, ignite their fiery hearts, and move forward hopefully for tomorrow. Forward, forward to a bright future …

  Spring, an unstoppable recovery.

In the most difficult places, there is always the hardest backbone.

Seeing the radish village in the clouds again, it is already spring.

Ma Qianguo, secretary of the Party branch of Radish Village, is busy on the construction site of Xinqiangzhai, hoarse and covered in loess. He told us that the foundation of the newly-built house is as strong as a pier, and it is no problem to resist a magnitude 10 earthquake. Thanks to the builders of Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, who provided counterpart support, they did their best.

Ma Qianguo, who has been a branch secretary for 22 years, had many opportunities to go out to earn big money, but he turned it down. Now he is holding a subsidy of 208 yuan a month and is busy for the people in the whole stockade.

He can’t forget that after last year’s earthquake, looking at the collapsed stockade and the dead villagers, he shed tears for the first time in his life. It is a great pleasure for him to lead the villagers to overcome difficulties at a difficult time. In order to let all the people in the whole village live in Xinqiangzhai before May 12 this year, he has only slept for three or four hours almost every day for more than half a year. Seeing that the house is about to be built, he is planning to promote the planting of 400 mu of sweet cherries in the whole village to develop the economy. It is also necessary to restore the face of the ancient Qiang village and develop the ancient Qiang village culture.

"We must build a new Qiang village and build a higher goal for the new life. The tomorrow of Radish Qiang Village will be better!" His self-confidence is just like the "sacred tree" in the ancient Qiangzhai that still stands upright in the earthquake and remains evergreen all the year round.

In Chenjiaba Township, Beichuan, we have seen another kind of tenacity.

There is an old man named Zhao Yifu in Qinglin Village here. The earthquake caused heavy losses to the village located on the mountain, so he couldn’t go home. The old man climbed back and forth more than 20 miles of steep slopes from the resettlement site every day to feed and water the surviving red horses, pigs and chickens at home. At that time, he told us a tearful sentence: "Life will go on!"

How is the old man now?

I asked people in the village’s banfang district and learned that Zhao Yifu and his wife had moved to the mountain. So, we decided to go up the mountain.

It is difficult to describe the difficulty of this mountain road. A gravel narrow path often goes straight up and down, and half of the way is dragged by the hands of the villagers who lead the way. The fellow villagers said that this was a hundred times stronger than the earthquake, and there were more people going up and down in the village, so they just stepped out of this path. For two hours, we finally met Zhao Yifu near the top of the mountain.

The old man is making a whole vegetable field, and the green beans, radishes and Chinese cabbage are all neatly grown. Looking back, the old man is darker than last year, but he is also more cheerful.

"Why do you want to go up the mountain?"

"Plane point of life. The government is so good to us that we can’t always rely on the country. " The old man smiled ha ha.

  "What about the horse?"

"I rolled to death on a cliff years ago." The old man’s face twitched sadly.

This is the most painful memory in his heart. Last autumn, after his red horse disappeared, he climbed up and down the mountain for three days and finally found it under a cliff.

The horse is already dead and its neck is broken. He touched it and kept wiping his tears, feeling distressed. What a good horse, it can carry 200 Jin of things.

This evening, he discussed with his wife, whose eyes were swollen with tears, and decided to go up the mountain to stay. The horse was gone, and there were pigs, so that pigs could not be allowed to make another mistake. The next day, they carried the rations and bedrolls issued by the state and returned to the mountains.

At the end of that year, two landrace pigs were fattened and strong. They sold half of one of them and left half. At the other end, nine piglets were born. During the Spring Festival, the son who worked outside came back. The whole family drank and ate meat on the mountain and watched a group of pigs happily for a year.

Zhao Yifu excitedly led us to see his pig.

Mother pig is generally round and white as snow, and nine young pigs are alive and kicking with pink in the white. Zhao Laohan was so happy that he couldn’t keep his mouth shut and kept criticizing us. He didn’t dare to lack people to raise pigs. He had to feed the pigs three times a day, with corn flour, soybeans, wheat and sugar in the pig feed. The pig doll would like to eat sweet food. He suddenly put in a little embarrassed: "Sometimes I am tired, I also drink some white sugar water …"

Looking at the old man, my nose is a little sour.

He is still chanting happily. This year, he not only raised nine piglets, but also planted lilies, which can receive 500 kilograms. Calculated, the income is much more than last year! After selling the money, he is going to raise a cow, and when the cow gives birth, life will be better.

He hardly cared, for such a good day, how much hardship he had to pay, the food he had to eat and the chemical fertilizer he had to use, all depended on him to carry it up the mountain from dozens of miles away.

In the most difficult places, there is always the hardest backbone. This is not only the backbone of an old man Zhao Yifu, but also the backbone of the people in the whole disaster area. This is the national backbone that can’t be defeated and crushed by any difficulties and obstacles!

In the smallest heartstrings, there is always the deepest blessing.

Ancient m blue, a poetic name. During the earthquake, in Jiuzhou Gymnasium, the largest resettlement site for the affected people in Mianyang, she and the "Perfect Spring Volunteer Service Station" she founded became the closest friends of countless suffering people. Men, women and children call her "Sister Lan". At most, she has commanded more than 20,000 volunteers.

This is a woman who once had millions of property and was engaged in tea business. On May 8 last year, she went to Mianyang from her hometown of Santai County. She was scheduled to fly to Yunnan on the evening of the 12th to inspect business, but she was left in Mianyang by the sudden earthquake. She walked into Jiuzhou Gymnasium and found a new pursuit. She gave away all her money and all her true feelings for the affected people.

In early spring, we saw the ancient m blue in Mianyang Yongxing Board House District. She and the "Perfect Spring Volunteer Service Station" still stick to this disaster-stricken land. Every day, volunteers from all over the country report to her.

Ask her, why are you still here? She said: "It is not a matter of time to heal a broken heart. We still have a lot to do."

The volunteer service station undertakes all kinds of help-seeking affairs in the whole region, and also opens a reading room, a stadium and a children’s psychological counseling station. On the desk in ancient m blue, we saw a pile of questionnaires for primary school students in the disaster area. The content of the survey was "My Wish", which recorded many children’s most yearning and realizable wishes after the earthquake.

An 11-year-old girl’s wish is to get a wheelchair, because her grandfather was injured in the earthquake. She wants him to walk around in a wheelchair, get out of the pain and stop being sad. A 9-year-old boy’s wish is to get a new Children’s Encyclopedia, because his original one was buried in the earthquake. Some children want a globe, others want a compass …

Gu m blue said that they have done their best to satisfy the children’s wishes. Because every satisfaction is the greatest comfort and healing for the children with broken hearts!

There are countless volunteers like Gu m blue in the disaster area. And more people who failed to reach the disaster area are still facing Wenchuan. The whole of China is a strong rear area for the people in the disaster areas.

On November 18th, 2008, Wenchuan County was decorated with lanterns and colorful flags. On the 500-meter-long street of Minjiang Road, people came to attend the Guangzhou-Weizhou post-disaster employment assistance job fair in an endless stream. More than 3,000 people from Weizhou Town, Mian Town and Longxi Township are excited to search for suitable positions at the recruitment site.

Dong Shangming, who is over 60 years old, may be regarded as the "elder" among the applicants. "After the earthquake, money is hard to earn. If you don’t continue to eat’ relief’, you have to find a way to make money." He has signed an intentional agreement at the job fair, and opened his locked brow.

Except for a few jobs with high technical requirements, most of the jobs recruited this time are labor jobs, which are very suitable for ordinary people.

By the end of last year, 53,000 workers in the earthquake-stricken areas had been transferred to other places, and 1.161 million people were employed nearby. The overall employment situation in the disaster-stricken areas was basically stable. Twenty supporting provinces and cities across the country have provided 769,000 effective job information to the disaster-stricken areas, and 25,000 workers in the disaster-stricken areas have been employed through aid projects.

As the Spring Festival approaches, longxi village, Longxi Township, Wenchuan County, is bustling again. That "twittering" laughter means that the children in the village are back.

After the earthquake, most primary and middle school students in Wenchuan were arranged to resume classes in different places all over the country for free. More than 50 children in longxi village have been scattered in Guangdong, Shanxi and Yibin, Sichuan. Now, they have brought back deep care from all walks of life.

On the land of the disaster area, construction sites can be seen everywhere, and the brave words of builders from Shanghai, Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu and other provinces and cities across the country are hung high on every construction site. Next to the ruins of Xiang ‘e Primary School in Dujiangyan, the new Xiang ‘e Primary School with all-wood structure built by Shanghai has begun to be capped.

According to the person in charge of the construction site, this school designed by Shanghai Tongji Design Institute costs more than 300 yuan per square meter, which can resist an earthquake of magnitude 8, prevent fire, moisture and radiation. It is a first-class building in domestic schools and will be fully delivered in June this year.

"Heaven and earth are so big, let’s walk out of the hut, smell the grass, feel cool in the sun, and there are so many good people, so open your heart …" On January 28th, the Chinese New Year condolence group of the Ministry of Culture performed in the playground of Yanzilian Middle School in ningqiang county, attracting tens of thousands of people from surrounding towns and villages to watch, and a song "Give Your Heart a Holiday" warmed the hearts of many villagers.

Wang Xianqin, a villager of Jinshan Temple, said: "I never dreamed that such a high-level actor came to our small mountain village …"

In those sad days, groups of condolence tour groups went to the earthquake-stricken areas, walking in Hanzhong, crossing Longnan, traveling in Tianshui, passing Mianzhu, wearing Yingxiu, and arriving in Beichuan … Along the Longmen Mountains, they conveyed the deep affection of a nation with heart to heart and hand in hand.

Boundless love, praying for a new spring …

On the earth reborn from the fire, there is always a brighter and brighter spring.

In the disaster area, we met the "first couple in Beichuan"-Zhang Jianjun and Mother Xianbi, known as the post-earthquake husband and wife reorganization.

The earthquake took away Zhang Jianjun’s wife, her parents-in-law, and her mother Xianbi’s husband, who lived alone with their only son. The father, son and mother, who used to live in a community and were originally distant relatives, were both heartbroken in an instant.

Three months after the earthquake, Zhang Jianjun’s sister set them up. On October 27th, 2008, they got married in qushan town, Beichuan, becoming the first couple in Beichuan to reorganize their marriage after the disaster.

Mother Xianbi knitted a sweater for her husband as the first gift after marriage. What Zhang Jianjun gave his wife was a heartfelt sentence: "I will take care of you all my life!"

On the first day when Mother Xianbi’s son joined the army, the couple took his son to Beichuan County and asked them to burn paper for their parents. In the evening, the whole family got together and had the most sumptuous dinner after the earthquake. At the dinner table, the family hugged each other and cried, and the tears were more passion and longing for a new life.

Mother Xianbi said: "With people who have confidence, they have hope for the future!"

Zhang Jianjun told us that he was going to work in Shanghai in a few days to earn some money and make a better life!

The new life in the disaster area is like this, quietly, but bravely and stubbornly moving forward.

In Penghua Village, a famous New Year’s picture village in Zundao Town, Mianzhu, we saw that the collapsed houses were being built, and every house that had been built was redrawn with colorful New Year’s pictures, including "Zhaogong Town House", "Mice Marry Women", "Samsung holds high photos" and "Double Whip", which revealed the joy and confidence of the villagers in the new life.

At the training site of women’s New Year pictures embroidery in disaster areas in the town, more than a dozen eldest sisters and girls are embroidering all kinds of New Year pictures in their hands under the guidance of teachers. They said that a medium-sized New Year picture embroidery can sell for more than 1,000 yuan, and the current order is in short supply.

In another New Year picture village-Archery Terrace Village, we met Chen Xingcai, the only 90-year-old folk artist in Mianzhu New Year picture circle who was awarded "the inheritor of intangible cultural heritage" by the Ministry of Culture. Since the earthquake, with the influx of people from all over the country into the disaster area and the opening of a new life in the disaster area, the demand for New Year pictures has greatly increased, and the elderly have to paint in the studio for half a day every day. Under his inheritance, not only his son and grandson draw New Year pictures, but also 70% of the people in the village can draw them. The old man said, "New Year pictures can lift people’s spirits!"

On a billboard standing at the head of the village, we saw this passage: "Although we lost our home, we still have Mianzhu New Year pictures. We stood up from the ruins, picked up a brush and continued to draw the strength of our hometown …"

Stand tall, March towards a new life, and step on every piece of land, every factory building and everyone’s heart in the disaster area.

On the fifth day of this year, the tranquility of Hanwang Town in Mianzhu City was broken.

Under the stopped Hanwang clock, people from all over the world gathered. On this day, Chen Li’s family in Chengdu took two photos ―― one was in front of the big clock, and in the distance, the post-earthquake ruins of Dongfang Steam Turbine Co., Ltd. loomed; The other is the new site of Hanwang Town, which is two or three kilometers away. The huge and lively construction site is a scene of rebirth.

On this day, the fourth main engine factory of Dongfang Steam Turbine Co., Ltd. started construction. In the morning, Li Chuanjun, the factory director, arrived a little earlier, but I didn’t expect the workers to come earlier than him. "Everyone is holding on." Li Chuanjun said.

As one of the hardest-hit enterprises, last year, Dongqi broke through 10 billion output value in an unprecedented way; This year, the speed of development was raised to 12%. The reconstruction plan of Dongqi, which was originally planned to be completed in two years, is expected to end this year ahead of schedule.

Zhang Zhiying, general manager of Dongqi, said: "The whole society is concerned about Dongqi, and it is our mission to repay the society."

Joy is conveyed in this early spring.

The lights are on, and Shapai Village, Caopo Township, Wenchuan County welcomes the arrival of the New Year in the thunder of hydropower generators.

Jiang Xiangdong of Jiang fengcun, Linjiang Town, Wenxian County, has been busy with several farmers in the village to learn to drive in the open space in front of the new village since the second day of the first month. He said, "When the house is built, we have to consider the way out. After the disaster, the demand for transportation is very large. We have to form a transportation team to engage in transportation."

In the field, there is a busy scene of spring ploughing everywhere, and agricultural vehicles carrying seeds and fertilizers are constantly shuttling.

Admittedly, all this is just the beginning, there are too many difficulties, too many expectations, and the road is still very long …

However, after all, the flowers are blooming, the grass is green and spring is coming.

Spring is gestation, spring is growth, spring is vigorous hope …

The people in the disaster-stricken areas who can’t be crushed and crushed, and the people in China, who are heroes, are creating new miracles and moving towards a better and brighter tomorrow in this spring land!
